An invitation to participate in community consultations by Friday, 11 July 2025
In October 2024, Boroondara Cemetery Trust commissioned the development of a Master Plan for Boroondara Cemetery located at 430 High Street, Kew.
During February 2025, we sought your thoughts and aspirations for Boroondara Cemetery. Your feedback has been taken on board and has informed the development of draft master plan concepts for Boroondara Cemetery.
We are reaching out again as a further opportunity for you to have your say and to provide comments on concepts that have been prepared for the Draft Master Plan. We invite you to share feedback and to offer suggestions that will help to inform the development of the Final Master Plan by Friday 11 July 2025.
As the cemetery is reaching its optimum capacity for interments, there is a renewed commitment to consider the cemetery’s past and present and to plan for the future. Cemeteries are no longer viewed as places with the sole purpose of burials and memorialisation. With an increased focus on the importance of open space for health and well-being, Boroondara Cemetery is an important open space asset with immense potential to provide stronger connections and partnerships with the community.
The Master Plan will explore innovative ideas that will allow Boroondara Cemetery to remain as a working cemetery into the future. Strengthened community connections will help to realise the site’s immense value as a place for education and discovery, celebration, and reflection. The project is intended to be a collaborative effort between Boroondara Cemetery Trust, the project Working Group, key stakeholders and the local community.
