Box Hill Prostate Cancer Support Group

We meet between 9.30 am-11.30 am, on the third Tuesday of every month at Box Hill RSL, 26-28 Nelson Rd, Box Hill VIC 3128

Markets

Car Boot Sale at Mont Albert.  

Every 4th Sunday 

The Rotary Club of Mont Albert & Surrey Hills is holding a regular car boot sale at Mont Albert on the 4th Sunday of each month.

We are grateful for the support from our community, Whitehorse Council and LXRP so we can do this regularly.  We are seeking stall holders, with a limit of 43 cars. Hours will be 8am to 1pm. Please contact Patt on 0425 725 899 or pattgags@yahoo.com.au for details


Hawthorn Makers Market

First Sunday of the month (March to December inclusive) at the Hawthorn Arts Centre

Welcome to the Hawthorn Makers Market which is committed to:

  • Supporting local, independent artists and designers and
  • Curating the best of Australian handcraft in one central marketplace.

Our monthly market is held inside and outside at the beautifully restored, Hawthorn Arts Centre.

Each stallholder has a story and each product is made with authenticity and soul.

Our market is artisan, unique and showcases the best in handmade happiness.

Parking is available at the rear of the Hawthorn Arts Centre, accessible from Kent St or Oxley Rd.

Treasures and Tastes at Trinity Market

Third Saturday of the month from 9am to 1pm

 

The popular Treasures and Tastes community market is held on the third Saturday of each month from 9.00am to 1.00pm at Holy Trinity complex, cnr Union Road and Montrose Street Surrey Hills. The stalls feature handcrafted items including jewellery, children’s clothing and toys, scarves, bags, cards, health and beauty products, and woodwork. There is also farm fresh produce and eggs, crepes, cakes, biscuits, relishes, honey, dog treats, and plants out on Union Road.

The Treasures Café is open during the morning, so do invite your neighbours and friends to join you there.  And you will find a BBQ out in the courtyard.

Boroondara Farmers Market

The Boroondara Farmers Market is held on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday of each month from 8 am to 12.30 pm at Patterson Reserve, Auburn Road, Hawthorn East,

In December, there is no 5th Saturday market; in January, there is no 1st Saturday market.

The market sells produce from all around Victoria. You can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, herbs and olives, seasonal organic produce, meat and eggs, honey, bread and cakes, dips and sauces, wine and beer.

If you care about food and buying local, then talk to the dedicated farmers who are just as passionate and learn about the ingredients and processes involved in the food they bring to market.

Customers are encouraged to use cashless forms of payment where possible. You can also pre-order with stall holders and collect produce on the day.

The Boroondara Farmers Market is an initiative of the City of Boroondara in partnership with the Rotary Club of Glenferrie  who also manage the market on market day. All money raised supports community projects run by the Rotary Club of Glenferrie.

Rotary Whitehorse Farmers’ Market

Every second Sunday of the month, 8:00 am to 1:00 pm

At the front of the Whitehorse Civic Centre, Whitehorse Road, Nunawading

Usually, there are around 55 stalls selling plants, fruit, vegetables, eggs, hot food, cakes, bread, honey and a variety of other seasonal produce.

Social Activities

Whitehorse Activities Club

Whitehorse Activities Club is a not-for-profit club run by volunteers. It has the sole purpose of providing meaningful activities for people planning for, commencing or who have already retired.

Coffee Club

If you are interested in finding out more about the Whitehorse Activities Club, come along to our coffee club,  which meets every week on Friday morning at 10.30am till 11.30am at the Chase Hotel, 3rd floor, Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre.

They are a friendly group that loves visitors. If you come along, you can meet some of our members and find out all about our club and its activities.

And of course, the coffee is good.

Men’s Probus Club of Surrey Hills

The Men’s Probus Club of Surrey Hills meets  at 10am on the first Thursday of each month at St Aidan’s Church Hall, 17 – 21 Duggan Street, North Balwyn.  At our monthly meeting we have a thought-provoking and informative Guest Speaker. And after the meeting there is lunch at Box Hill RSL for interested members.

Probus Club Mont Albert

We meet 10am on the second Friday of the month in the Function room at the Box Hill Golf Club. After a short business meeting, we have a new member present a “Face behind the Badge” story, before socialising over morning tea and then have a presentation by a guest speaker on a topic of special interest. The meetings finish at 12 noon and members then often dine on-site or at another venue. Membership entails a commitment to attend at least 50% of monthly meetings.


Probus Club of Mitcham Nunawading

The amalgamation of the Nunawading Probus Club and the Mitcham Probus Club to form Probus Club of Mitcham Nunawading has created a strong, engaged and growing group that offers a diverse range of activities for its members.

Meetings are held at the Willis Room, 379-399 Whitehorse Road, Nunawading at 10am, on the second Tuesday of every month (except Christmas). The morning starts with a brief General Meeting, followed by a delicious morning tea and a speaker. Lunch after the meeting is at The Coach, 385 Maroondah Highway, Ringwood, for those who wish to attend.

U3A Hawthorn – Your Gateway to learning

U3A Hawthorn was established for people in their third age who are over the age of 55 and are retired or are semi-retired. Our Mission is to provide opportunities for seniors to learn, teach, share and to give mutual support to each other in a friendly and warm environment, regardless of ethnicity, religion, ability or disability.

Women’s Circle at Hawthorn Community House

The newest offering at HCH is a wonderfully supportive women’s social circle meeting at Henry St on Tuesdays each fortnight commencing 23 July 2024 from 10-12pm.

Enjoy a cuppa and meet in an informal, welcoming and social setting to share knowledge experience, and aspects of life in an atmosphere of respect and trust. Volunteers Kerry and Margy will lead this group and encourage connection and conversation.

Tuesdays fortnightly 10am-12pm. $2 Gold coin donation for each session. Meetings are at our Hawthorn site 32 Henry St Hawthorn.

Educational and Language Resources

The English Corner at Balwyn on Saturday mornings

The initiator of the English Corner at the Box Hill Shopping Centre Minwen Wu has now set up a similar regular event at the Balwyn Shopping Centre.  It will operate on Saturday mornings from 10am to 11.30am in much the same way as that at Box Hill and also at the Glen.  Its purpose is to give people for whom English is not their first language more practice in speaking in English.

History and Genealogy


Family History Connections is a not-for-profit organisation that has an extensive Resource Centre at Blackburn, where volunteer Resource Centre Assistants are available to assist members and visitors with their family research.  It is located at Unit 1, 41 Railway Rd (corner of Queen St) Blackburn.

Free Starting Out Classes provide a comprehensive introduction to family history, resources, organising material and where to find information. These classes are open to both members and non-members. Two classes of about two hours duration are run on consecutive Sundays. Bookings are essential, please contact the office on 9877 3789 or info@familyhistoryconnections.org.au.
