Birrarung Riverfest

September 6 - September 28

Love the Yarra? Reserve at least some of September to enjoy the annual Birrarung Riverfest.
Although only in its third year, Riverfest has become a ‘must participate’ event for those who
love and respect our city’s major river. But we’re not just talking about the city end of the
river, events are planned along much of its 242k length!
Coordinated by the Yarra Riverkeeper Association, Melbourne Water and associated
organisations, it offers a multitude of river-based activities including cultural events,
storytelling, clean-ups, kayaking, art, planting, education, and citizen science. There’s
something for everyone at Riverfest, whether you’re spotting a platypus, paddling the river,
or joining a local planting event.
Of course, it’s not just for fun, it’s also an opportunity to appreciate the pressures threatening
the river’s survival. And under pressure it is! This year’s Riverfest will highlight the impact
of stormwater on water quality, bank stability and the ever-diminishing wildlife habitat.
Head to riverfest.org.au to learn much, much more about September’s Birrarung Riverfest.
