DESCRIPTION:Outer Eastern Treaty Education and Solidarity Forum\nTuesday September 22 from 7pm to 9pm. \nCentral Ringwood Community Centre. \nBedford Park\, 2 Rosewarne Lane (via Bedford Road)\, Ringwood. \n \nLearn about Australia’s first Treaty and how we got here. \nLast year the State of Victoria signed the first Treaty with her First Peoples. Treaty is something for all Victorians to be proud of. But did you know that right now\, Treaty is under threat. Some political parties have pledged to rip up the Treaty if elected this November. After a decade in the making\, it is so important that the Statewide Treaty be upheld. \nAssembly members from Gellung Warl and the Together for Treaty team will be speaking. Treaty is good for First Peoples and for all Victorians and should be above party politics. This is why Treaty education and these conversations are so important. \nCome and learn more about the Treaty and how to best show your support for the it. \nNote: RSVPs necessary. DESCRIPTION:Here Comes the Bride\nMaling Heritage Centre. 190A Canterbury Road\, Canterbury \nMonday 28 September to Friday 9 October (Monday to Friday 2pm to 5pm. Sunday\, 11am to 5pm) \nOver the last few months\, the Canterbury History Group and the Surrey Hills Historical Society have been researching the social history of weddings\, the traditions behind them and the changes that can be seen over time. Why the white dress? And why were orange blossoms so commonly used in bouquets\, buttonholes and bridal coronets? \nTraditionally\, and continuing in some cultures\, marriage reflected class and inheritance\, with partners often chosen by family. Today in Boroondara and more broadly\, weddings still celebrate the marriage of two people and the joining of their families; they demonstrate love and are a time for the couple to celebrate with family and friends and to publicly state their commitment to each other. \nThis exhibition draws upon material held in our collections and within the local community. It includes dresses from the late 1890’s up until today\, over 50 wedding photos\, memorabilia including accessories\, cards and wedding invitations\, over 1000 local marriage announcements and newspaper reports\, and individuals’ stories. \n
