SUMMARY:Open Gardens - The Garden of Hope

SUMMARY:Caring for Country. Wominjeka Garden
DESCRIPTION:Caring for Country\nSaturday 2 May from 9am to 11am \nWominjeka Garden. Murnong First People’s Gathering Place \n100 High Street Glen Iris\, adjacent to St Oswald’s Anglican Church \n  \nThe 2021 State of Environment report describes the importance of Caring for Country to Australian Indigenous people as follows: \n\n\nFor Indigenous people\, caring for Country is an obligation and an honour. In caring for Country\, Indigenous Australians draw on laws\, knowledge and customs that have been inherited from ancestors and ancestral beings\, to ensure the continued health of lands and seas with which they have a traditional attachment or relationship. This is a reciprocal relationship\, whereby land is understood to become wild or sick if not managed by its people\, and in turn individuals and communities suffer without a maintained connection to Country. It is well understood by Indigenous people that if you ‘look after Country\, Country will look after you’ (Woodward & McTaggart 2019). As caring for Country is embedded in cultural heritage\, it includes caring for culture: stories\, songlines\, language and connection to Country. \n\n\nTo learn more about Caring for Country\, go here. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Victorian Aboriginal Remembrance Service at the Shrine of Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:Bunurong Elder Uncle Mick Edwards stands beside the Shrine of Remembrance cauldron \nVictorian Aboriginal Remembrance Service\nSunday 31st May at 11am \n20th Anniversary of the Victorian Aboriginal Remembrance Service \nThis annual service pays tribute to the vital contributions Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service personnel have made—and continue to make—to the Australian Defence Force.  For over a century\, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have served in conflict and peacekeeping missions involving Australia. Yet\, for many years\, their service and sacrifice were not formally recognised or commemorated.  In 2006\, the late Aunty Dot Peters AM\, alongside Retired Flight Sergeant Sam Halim\, then-President of the Healesville RSL\, led the first dedicated remembrance service to honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service-people. \nShrine of Remembrance.  Birdwood Ave and At Kilda Road Melbourne \n

SUMMARY:Caring for Country. Wominjeka Garden
DESCRIPTION:Caring for Country Wominjeka Garden\nSaturday 4th July 9am to 11am \nMurnong First Peoples’ Gathering Place 100 High Street\, Glen Iris adjacent to St Oswalds Church \nThe 2021 State of Environment report describes the importance of Caring for Country to Australian Indigenous people as follows: \n\n\nFor Indigenous people\, caring for Country is an obligation and an honour.
