Building Bridges Through Story (BBTS) is an event which encourages community participation, enlightenment and action, through listening to stories from people who have lived experience and whose voices are seldom heard. It aims to be a challenging event for participants, and one which strengthens participants to work together in building the kind of community we wish to live in.
2024 is bringing a new story to share with this year’s theme for Building Bridges Through Story – Homelessness.
Homelessness is not randomly distributed across the population, but systematically structured around a set of identifiable individual, social, and structural factors; most of which are outside the control of those directly affected.
As a large and diverse community services organisation, Uniting has a unique insight into how compounding factors create pathways to housing insecurity and homelessness and this activity will be run with the active engagement and support of Uniting Homelessness Services (UHS), a part of this network.
It will encourage involvement broadly, but focus specifically on issues, examples and opportunities relevant to our local area, with the aim of building bridges between the vulnerable and ‘mainstream’ part of the community for both individuals and groups.
To understand the impact of homelessness, we must engage the voices of those with lived experience. This is an opportunity to hear from people with direct experience of homelessness and their perspective on the issues they faced.
This year’s Building Bridges through Story will provide an opportunity for deep listening and engagement with people locally who have been impacted by homelessness.
